Romanticism was of great importance and rapidly developed in German, French and Russian literature and other European countries. The movement was characterized by an appreciation of nature and ordinary people, a focus on individual experience, an idealization of women, and the elimination of disenchantment. Romanticism entered British life and other parts of the world later.
